Junk Food Fighting

New Mini tonight!

As a PvE Monk, Healbot loves all the treats that give her an advantage. I’m not sure what the dark god of secrets might have thought about defeat at the greasy hands of a cake-and-kabob eating Monk. Yes, campaign three was completed this anniversary weekend. I still have to send her to the Jade Sea though, to finish Factions via the Luxon path. Cripes, I hate those Oni…

Hope everyone enjoyed the Mesmer promotion. Miette might have something to say about that shortly!

Find the hidden comic!

Filed under: Comics & Games — labsenpai @ 12:21 am

After years of clandestine operation, Mesmers may finally have their enigmatic skills revamped for PvE desirability. I hear that developers are researching how to make these haughty heroes a wonderful choice for any type of play. Personally, I think Mesmer assets are clear…but could be made more so with strategic advertisement. Since I know you want to learn more, I’ve hidden a new “Mesmer Promotion” within the GW comics!

Your hint to its location: Miette’s shot.

GOGOGO!

FOM Gallery

Filed under: Retromodern — labsenpai @ 1:08 pm

Neither a religion nor a cult, The Fraternal Order of Moai is a club interested in the recreational arcanums of our previous century. We have no research degrees, only our memories of adventurous times before global warming and MTV ad infinitum. Admittedly, I have only a wisp of a connection to the Exotic or other Post-War frivolity. I’m Generation X, which means I didn’t see tikis at the local Polynesian lounge, or race Vespas around Cold War military bases. Instead, someone my age would’ve seen pan-cultural oddities on field trips to museums, during family slide shows, or perhaps even in a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. Having parents that travelled the world turned out to be an influence I didn’t discover till I was out of college. Retromodernism sprouted in pop culture then, with its shagadelic art, hot rods, and reverb guitar soundtrack. We, the FOM, are glad these things can persist with our help…and a few strong pieces of bamboo.

Hence, in this gallery, you will see art and projects that have drawn a creative jolt from the past. Genres may end up scrambled, but it should all be strangely familiar!

Hard Mode Mini!

Filed under: Comics & Games — labsenpai @ 8:01 pm

Time for a new comic! This one is true to a recent Healbot adventure; she really did get that gold scimitar. Unfortunately, the Borlis Pass centaurs weren’t going to let her leave alive with it. I think Hard Mode is the lovechild of nonchalant Wammos and B/P Rangers. If Healbot had 100 Armor and defensive stances, she’d probably take scenic strolls in the Torment Realm.

Speaking of healer-unfriendly places, the Gate of Fear is where she’s supposed to be grinding. However, lack of teams has made for a boring end to Nightfall (I’m the only one in my guild that plays regularly). So, Healbot is working overtime in Factions, where I sent her for those Elites in the Archipelagos.

Expect to see updates late Sunday or on Mondays!

Much Ado about Primaries

Filed under: Comics & Games — labsenpai @ 1:58 pm

In my Healbot comic, I have Miss Monkie griping about her class-specific skills. I have always felt that the GW Primary Attributes were rather inequitable, and could constrict the number of desirable builds. Diverse builds are what save our characters from having to grind along an infinite path of experience leveling (unlock “X” at lvl40!). Without this “experimental” quality, GW would be a “once-through” kind of adventure. Although I haven’t played every class (to be familiar with the workings of every Primary), I do know that the more “experimental” classes - Ranger & Elementalist, share an energy saving kind of Primary. Expertise-centric Rangers can play any combat style, while max-energy Elems can pack any spell combo. I’m not proposing a nerf to those two classes, I’d just like to see a more holistic benefit granted by the other class Primaries.

Or at least Holy Haste increasing MOVEMENT speed?

Healbot vs GWEN!

Filed under: Comics & Games — labsenpai @ 5:27 pm

Healbot fans are in luck; a Tyrian game expansion has been announced, and there won’t be time for lazy monks to nap. All the details were in the May issue of PCGAMER, which you can see Healbot reading in her latest strip. Enjoy!

Before the expansion arrives, I just might have enough time to push her through the lonely zones of Factions and Nightfall. I feel bad that all my other lvl 20’s are going to gather dust…

The JLU comic is going to be revived, even though the show itself has already been archived on DVD. After I finished Episode 8, I still had ideas for more goofy content (courtesy of about one million loose ends in the plot).

Lastly, the Ghost Tower section is online again, with its focus on the gunk that gets sifted out of old sketchbooks. I even painstakingly crafted pages for a d20 campaign…almost to current edition standards. I’m still getting headaches about Armor Class now working in reverse!

Greetings!

CHC is a simple collection of art projects that stem from my interest in Role-Playing Games, Animation, Science Fiction, and other Cult Media. These illustrations will likely never be part of my professional portfolio, but I find them much too interesting to stop wasting time on. By displaying them to you, I hope to generate interest in my art, and fulfill my dream of becoming that guy who sketches toons for top dollar (or at least a fast-food value meal). Follow the gallery buttons on the right for the art; you can also email me at the address on my Bio page!
