Not a Castellan yet? Get Farming!
Holy hasted healers, lots of skill related changes and additions were made a few days ago. Notably, the addition of Sunspear skills for all the Nightfall players demanding rewards for extreme rank farming. Personally, I viewed the whole Sunspear concept as a metaphor for having ones character reach level 20 in a “military setting”. You start as a foot soldier and finish as a camp-establishing General (with Lightbringer’s Gaze as your special PvE skill). I didn’t feel compelled by the story to farm points; I finished the campaign having only hit rank 7.
I’m sure a small portion of gamers will be motivated to complete more side quests to increase their rank. I’m convinced that a larger percentage will continue to delight in having the “Shrine Guy” give them points for killing monsters. Don’t try the latter on Hard Mode though, because armor buff skills don’t stack now. Exploiting should require some effort.

Of course, you can always just choose to farm points LB and SS points in Hard Mode in the Desolation via Wurm, and never worry about DP, resurrections, etc. Even without the double-point weekends, the boss bonuses make it a rapid rise to the high levels. (Show of Force, anyone?)

It’s not just that!
Over in Cantha, the Kurzicks and Luxons have added a special deal. For 100g you can buy a Blessing that gives +25 Max Health, +3 Health regen, and now ALL YOU CAN EAT faction points! +5 Faction per kill, and bonus for bosses (max 125). Plus you don’t have to hunt specific monster types, the faction counts for ANY kill.
Looks like my warrior is getting his Elite Kurzick Plate a lot sooner.

Since the latter half of Factions has an interactive system for redeeming points, I can see special skills as being another spending option - just like the armor crafting or alliance donations. In comparison, the Sunspear ranks don’t sway/unlock hardly anything at all. For the trouble of gaining levels, I’d like something new to participate in. How about a special battle that allows a full party of Heroes? Access to a secret Corsair gambling den? Search for a hairdresser? I guess I still feel spoiled from the awesome upgrades to Prophecies…

I’m enjoying the paragon SS skill quite alot when running support builds. I still have yet to run into the factions skills. I’m 30k faction short of the first tier on the friend of the kurzick title. Sucks that you have to wait that out before getting anything plus the added cost of 3k faction. Faction farming all this week I ’spose for that purpose.

After you beat Abaddon, you can claim all the heroes you didn’t pick up before, and then Razah makes number fifteen… Alliance battles are 12 vs 12…
The Sunspears have embarked on a campaign to conquer Cantha!
