Holiday Gifts to Self

Filed under: Site News — labsenpai @ 1:46 pm

Sadly, on a starving artist salary there isn’t much left to spend after subtracting for family and friends. Fortunately, I have magical resistance to things like “Cyber Monday” and barrages of glossy holiday catalogs. Even an otaku can learn to be frugal. Yet, there are special gems that appear…and must be nabbed quick (like a shirt-woot).

Item 1 on the list of purchases is the super 5 disc BLADERUNNER DVD box set due in a few weeks. It has remastered goodness and even a toy Spinner aircar!  Collector’s Editions of the nerdy classics just make ya feel good.

Know some other cool yet bargain-priced goodies being offered “under the mainstream radar”? Perhaps this could evolve into a gift guide…

  1. the only catalogs I go through this time of year are puzzles and those odd “hard-to-find” stuffs catalogs. There’s this one about someone’s attic with tonnes of odd S-F reference items, can’t remember the name.

Here’s something I think is kinda coo: Exterminate!

I hope I did that right.

As far as stuffs I’m looking for: more Anime complete series at decent prices. I kind of prefer the english subtitled ones, like my Detective Conans. Books are also good, like Ender’s Game and of course printed comic books like Calvin and Hobbes. That’s the kind of stuff that keeps me entertained for hours on end, when I’m not able to get on the computer.

Also, I don’t know if I’ve said it before, but that Jora in the Teddy Bear suit is just awesome.

  2. They need to make a Roomba-robot type of Dalek that cleans and brings you the tv remote. Actually, the Bear suit is being worn by T-chan, from the Tank Troubles comic. Note her headband ^_^

  3. lol, i love how the Daleks say “exterminate!”

I don’t know any particular items off the top of head, but if you browse used book stores, garage sales, Goodwills, etc, you might actually find games, books, or CDs you’ve been looking for. That’s where I found my copy of Icewind Dale 2 for $5 ^.^
