Best modifier mixes?

Filed under: Comics & Games — labsenpai @ 2:55 pm

Now that Healbot has a tidy pile of inscriptions and mods, I need to make some choices on combinations. Particularly, I’m wondering what makes the best “homemade” shield for a Warrior (not that I play mine much)? I have mods that give armor bonuses vs piercing, slashing, fire, earth, and some +4 all-around ones. Plus, there are the +HP handles to choose from. I have 2 shields to mod, one with Strength req and one Tactics. My default shield has always been the boring Bronze Factions shield with +30 HP/ -5 dmg percentage chance.

This week I also completed the Asuran “facet” quests, which rewarded me with skills and a green staff. I also survived Frostmaw’s Burrow in Hard Mode, with a guild group. Dungeons shouldn’t have more than 3 levels…I get “caffeine nerves” if they take any longer :D

  1. Without knowing what build your Warrior is, and your usual Heroes/Henchies/Guildmates, I would suggest making a thread on GWGuru in the Warrior forum.

Then again, I never play with a Warrior anyways. Minions FTW.

  2. It depends on the TYPE of warrior you need. If PvP, for the sheild you want Health +30 and “I can see clearly” blind reduction mod and the rune for your armor. For PvE, it would depend on where you want to go. If dealing with alot ranger/para-types then reduction in piercing would be fine. Otherwise, to cover all bases, Dmg -5 (20% chance) is pretty much general. The “Dmg -5 while in stance” or “while enchanted” is good for farming warriors that use stances and/or enchantments. That’s the basics anyway. =oD

  3. A perfect sundering sword of fortitude with strength and honor inscription (aka 20/20 +30 15^50) and a shield with +30 health and -5/20% damage reduction should be able to cover most stardard pve warrior builds.

  4. And of course do the same thing with axes if you wanna play with axe ^^ If you run builds that are really energy intensive, a zealous mod would be helpful for energy management.

  5. I wish I had a max item for every inscription, but much of my loot isn’t from the new campaigns. Anyway my Warr style is utilitarian, with a bar that goes: Speed buff, Adrenaline boost, Unblockable attack, Deep Wound, Weapon Elite, Extra attack, Health/Defense buff and Rez. With all my Healing unlocks, I can easily equip Condition removal for certain areas, so I’m leaning towards the bonus to damage-type mods (elemental?).

Maybe I should carry an Energy focus and become Tyria’s worst PBAoE Elementalist! Well, maybe better than Zhed.

PS: But Dacelo, my ordinary gear isn’t FLASHY AWESOME…
PSS: The only Zealous mod I have is for a Hammer, but I do have +5E Sword & Axe.

  7. Speaking of Asuran stuff, I just reached “Not Too Grumpy”, which is perfect for Healbot. I think I’ll work on Vanguard missions now; I need one of those “Vanguard Supporter” spells!

  8. A good all round shield is the Exalted Aegis set up. I have been using that set up on my warrior since Factions came out and it hasnt failed me yet. I am using it on all my warrior Hero’s to boot. Its the main set up for my guild as well so its working for us.

  10. as a warrior by profession i prefer 30hp and -2 while stanced to use on my warrior, that is because i use alot of stances like enraging and flail. i also have a few 29-30hp shields with +10 vs different types. i keep a cold for the norn areas and others with icy mages and a fire one for charr areas or when i know i will hit alot of fire dmg like dryders in doa and uw. i also keep a -2 while enchanted shield if we have alot of monks running healing seed and seed of life. i know alot of ppl like -5 20% but i have read that it averages out to 1 dmg reduction per hit, but can run 0-5 per hit (read on guru). imo the -2 is better as it is dmg protection every hit instead of random chance.

in conclusion for pve and pvp you cant go wrong with too many shields with different mods, especially pvp. i have friends who have one of every shield protection type for gvg, ect. however for selling purposes the -5 20% is preferable as it is deemed perfect.

    hope this helps. ^_^

  11. If you need a fellow monk for NM Frostmaw or any dungeon for that matter, you can always bug mine. :P Search for Xiu Ming Ling. I’ve got almost every NM dungeon completed except for Slavers’. *shudders*

As for shields, like others have said before me, it depends on what you wanna do with your warrior? For all-around PvEing, the -5/20% and +30 hp is usually the best. If you want her as an Obsidian Flesh tank, or farming somewhere as a Wammo, take the -2/+45 hp while enchanted combo. Unless you’re gonna have your warrior specialize in farming a certain area or certain monsters, it’s not necessary to use any special +10 armor vs. whatevers.

  13. Thanks all, I was able to make my final choices after finding more inscriptions and visiting a collector to get the Militia Shield. Now all my Warr needs is a cool helmet…too bad those don’t drop as loot.

PS: I also made a +5E/+5 Armor Short Sword for Healbot, just like she wields in the first comic! YAR!
