My current gaming group has been meeting for almost 4 years now, roughly one evening per week. I've only gamed intermittently over the decades, starting in the early 1980's with my younger brother, and then with new friends in the mid 90's. Until these more recent sessions, I've really only been familiar with AD&D/d20 systems and computer games like Baldur's Gate. Luckily, my cohorts own a vast library of RPGs, card games, and fancy board games. We could probably game every day for a decade and not run out of scenarios! I enjoy running campaigns as much as playing them, which is why I was selected to be the first DM for my group. Two of my friends hadn't ever played AD&D, so I started a mini-campaign for them that could later lead into the classic modules (from the World of Greyhawk). Upcoming posts here at the Ghost Tower will contain the game data I made, which propelled their characters to level 6. Although I could've easily continued, Dave, my website host and site coder, asked to run a sci-fi adventure using the latest Star Wars RPG books. This genre is our current RPG, and Dave is running the "online plot" scripted by the publishers. When we aren't blasting stormtroopers or cleaving ogres, the weighty pile of board and card games is hauled in. Of these, I favor the well-crafted products from Fantasy Flight Games...particularly Descent, which fits my sword & sorcery preference (but not my budget). Soon I'll have to borrow the rulebook and learn how to make my own adventure (like the submitted ones at the FF website). If there isn't time for a long game, somebody usually sets up Munchkin or such. Excluding the continuation of the AD&D campaign (ran as a 3rd Ed hodge-podge), I want to trial a fantasy game of my own design, or perhaps a modern "Horror/Thriller" game using a utilitarian system like HERO. Some cover art banners photographed at this summer's Indy GENCON. Had to hold camera above the heads of swarming troglodytes.
